It’s not all potatoes, lobsters and Anne of Green Gables in P.E.I.
With a population of just over 140,000 (about the same as Barrie ON), PEI wouldn’t be the first place you have in mind as a hockey hotbed. But, with 27 rinks servicing this tiny island province, hockey is clearly on the mind of most of the people.
PEI has produced about 30 NHL players.
Most hockey fans know about Brad Richards and Adam McQuaid, Steve Ott and Darryl Boyce, but that’s just the tip of the hockey stick.
Rick Vaive was a three-time 50-goal scorer who amassed 441 goals in a 12-year career spent largely with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was a product of the Charlottetown minor hockey system. His son Justin is trying to follow in Dad’s footsteps with the Anaheim Ducks.
Other PEI NHL notables include:
Mark Flood, Adam McQuaid, Darryl Boyce, Drew MacIntyre, Nathan McIver, Jason MacDonald, Steve Ott, Brad Richards, Tyler Larter, Shane MacEachern, Kent Paynter, Gerard Gallant, John Chabot, Dave Cameron, John Hughes, Garth MacGuigan, Maynard Schurman, Bob MacMillan, Gary Simmons, Al Macadam, Bob Stewart, Billy MacMillan, Errol Thompson, Bob Whitlock, Wes Trainor, Hickey Nicholson, Charles Cahill and Paddy Nolan.
Permanent Steel Dasher Boards (PS-S-01)
Sound Barriers is pleased assist in continuing this proud island tradition by retrofitting the Souris PE arena with an upgraded permanent steel dasher board system (PS-S-01).
– This system utilizes hot dipped galvanized steel horizontal stringers.
– Stronger frame and less long-term maintenance.
– Welded on-site frame provides extreme perimeter strength and design flexibility.
