Sound Barriers is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the contract to replace the arena boards at Baddeck Arena in Baddeck, Nova Scotia.
The town of Baddeck, in the heart of the island of Cape Breton, is a thriving tourist destination known as the beginning and end of the world famous Cabot Trail. Baddeck is also a stopover point for sailing the inland lakes of Bras d’Or and the location of Alexander Graham Bell’s summer home which is a national historic site.
At the arena, Sound Barriers will be installing a PS-S-01 Permanent Steel Dasherboard System to replace the more than 30 year old original dasherboards. The PS-S-01 System has 3” x 3” HSS posts welded to ½” anchor plates which are anchored to the perimeter slab with 5/8” wedge anchors. The stringers are 1 ½” x 1 ½” HSS tubes welded to the posts.
This dasher board system features an additional stringer in the radius sections set at the height of the facilities ice resurfacer guidewheel which helps reduce inadvertent damage by the resurfacer operators when cleaning the ice. The new arena will feature 6’ high tempered glass in all spectator areas, as well as new monofilament safety netting for three quarters of the arena, new player/penalty benches, rubber mat flooring, bottle shelves, and timers box with new HDPE table and acrylic roof.
The construction is to begin in late April and be completed by mid May.
